You absolutely did contribute to who she is. Who they all are! All those lucky humans are out there who got to experience one of your classes - I’m grateful they’re all out there. You make the world a better place!
At one point in my USC career which lasted 31 years, I thought I could remember every student I’d ever taught, if not by name, then at least by sight. But somewhere along the way, I reached my memory’s capacity. When I looked at the list of my old student registration rosters, I only recognized a fraction of the names.
Sometimes I’d meets former student in LA, just like you did at the Oaxacan restaurant, and sometimes… I just didn’t remember. Then again some semesters I would have seven or eight classes, including my freshman seminar . Like you, thousands and thousands of students.
At least now that I’m in the Philippines, I seemingly don’t have to worry about it. Somewhat of a relief. Lol.
